Plain Sight
By Sriya Bhavaraju
Told we were of God’s and War
Taught we were of the Asura’s downfall.
Many, they say, died on earth’s fallow ground,
Their bodies we’re informed, were never found;
But had they really gone askew?
Or did they morph into something new?
Hidden they were, in the dead of night,
Yet clearly in plain sight,
They live in an abundance no one foretold,
Committing the sins, we choose to ignore;
They wear a mask of human flesh,
Like us, they even dress.
Our scriptures say morals are the epitome of man,
These words bear mark of our ancient land,
Warned again, we are, in our tales of yore,
Of this evil claiming human form;
It runs rampant, wild, unruly, and free,
Hidden in plain sight,
But so hard to see.
This beast may seem like a myth to some,
A silly folklore, not worrisome,
You see the roses not their spiked,
Could ignorance be our demise?
These Asura’s you see, were never meant to be feared,
Or the Rakshasa’s despised,
They were merely a warning,
a cautionary tale,
To show the evil our minds can entail.
Recall the words by an ancient hand,
The true danger,
Is a moralless man.
