Pitiful Excuses For Every Occasion

I am a tumble of excuses

one tripping after the other

each more foolish than the last,

I hide behind them like a coward

in hopes they shall shield me from my mistakes

but they are only made out of glass,

easy to shatter and break

pieces reflecting the worst parts of myself

the truest parts of it all,

I flinch, shrinking small

Crawling away, a feeble attempt at escape

Watching as the pieces of glass cut and scrape,

My excuses catching up to me in a wretched embrace

As I fumble last minute to save face,

But no matter the turns I take

There is no space

I am encased within my own disgrace.

- ‘The ugly truth enclosed in lies

Behind which one hides

Is nothing but a faulty disguise.’
