Personal Little Hell

By Safoorah Aafreen

If you punish yourself

Everywhere becomes hell

Caging yourself

In this self made cage

Of thorns and poison

Clawing at yourself

As crimson blood flows down

As your tears stain your face

With misery

Forever marking you

As someone in despair

You force this feeling down

But one day

It flows over

Switching a flip in your brain

Or you heart

Maybe your body

Or perhaps

Your soul

Afterall,

Your body was never yours was it

You swirl in these emotions

As they slowly break you

Chipping away

You would not have been this way

If you hadn’t forced it down

And now

You look at yourself and wonder

Do I have the permission to lose it?

Until you realise

That no one can truly give you permission

You are always going to be stuck in that cage

Your personal little hell
