Perfectly Wrong
By Yashika Vashisht
Everything seemed perfect for the moment of a heartbeat,
When we mistook the taste of poison for honey so sweet;
Two burnt children who admired the crimson fire,
Two human beings with their hearts full of poisonous desire.
And we never had a song to call ours,
Because we were perfectly holding the wrong flowers;
You had the portals to another dimension,
And I was the anchor of my own declination;
Somehow we were together yet always alone,
We were perfectly wrong for each other, with nowhere else to go;
Maybe we don't need another song for you and me,
So let this be the last one,
Because heaven knows that you were perfectly wrong for me.
We put a spell on each other,
Blinded by the misty smother;
This was another one of our fears,
That we'd end up with tears;
The poets were always correct,
There's no such thing as 'perfect'.
With that gentle smile of yours,
You put the chaos inside of me to sleep,
In a town where the water runs deep;
I thought we belonged to the same star,
So I left my rhyme for you to answer from afar;
Now I keep a reflection of you in hindsight,
And I have an apology overdue,
After everything we did and said that night.
And now I reminisce about the illicit affair,
The silenced screams and the tears cried in despair;
Always making and forgiving the same mistakes,
Hoping we'd learn our lessons,
But never knew how many mistakes it takes.
Me and you, we were made to break,
Now I wander by the edge of the desolated lake;
Here's my secret,
Now yours to keep;
I always saw us in this story,
I always knew you were perfectly wrong for me.
