Penumbra

By Danielle Hazart

i think i saw you in my dream last night,

a daunting shine around a familiar shadow

i tore my throat into sorry shreds of vanity,

but you never turned to face me.

when i woke up, you were miles away

asleep, while i sighed and tossed and prodded.

when you never stir, not even slightly, i wonder

for how long had i been alone beside you.
