Peaks and Plains

Where earth meets heaven in a tender embrace,

As clouds descend to bless the land with rain,

The mountains wear their snowy, white grace,

Yet, are they as the spreading, fertile plain?

Is deodar like banyan in refrain?

Or is it Nature's law, both fair and wise,

That parts the lands with hands both soft and stern,

Where plains receive the sky's tearful sighs,

And peaks in silent, chilled embrace yearn?

Is it reverence or heaven's silent call

That beckons souls to climb the heights above?

Do seekers feel the gentle, tender thrall?

Do those with lust hear the thunder's rumble?

As pilgrims tread the paths of high ascent,

Do they perceive the earth's soft, sacred ground?

Or do they, in their quest, the storm's sorrow,

And with each step, the voice of Indra resound?
