Once Upon A Mole

Born into a home shattered

You were left alone, young and battered

Twelve times in foster homes you roamed

Plotting escapes and hopes stoned.

Married young to escape

Only to fall into the endless cave.

A life of routine, mundane, and gray

Until the glimmer of stardom led the way.

Captured by a lens, a fate’s design

You became Hollywood's favourite sign

Divorced young, you took the leap

And discovered dreams that set you free.

You sang, you danced, you acted

Everyone said you were quite the package.

Feminist before it was vogue to be,

To envious eyes and for the mind to feast.

Remarried to wealth, yet you still yearned

For love and acceptance so often spurned

Adorned by fans, but haunted within

Your laughter masks the pain therein.

Pretty white dress, red lipstick

The perfectly blonde updo on the movie set.

In the subway breeze, your beauty shone

Driving men wild, their desires overblown.

Your smile, the veil that hid the hurt inside

A facade for the pain you pushed aside.

But through it all, you remained a superstar

An icon to be remembered near and far.

Despite the battle bruises and constant strives

Your legacy lives on with your spirit combined

In the hearts of admirers, forever enshrined

For you are Marilyn Monroe, an eternal sign.
