Of Snow Thuds
By Muzaffar Ahmad Nengroo
Melodious grumble and Mellifluous rumble,
Euphonious snaps and lyrical thuds
Of heavy knocks and mellow smashes
Against the soft and the concrete floors,
On the plains and on the rises;
By the tearful slush and sleet’s tumble.
I do wake up from my dreams
When the white fleece lumps
Rhyme in the random reams.
The silken sound rhymes;
Enchant in the frigid climes.
Swollen knolls and the bulged bumps
Appear in the morns,
Beneath the roofs’ hems.
When unload their cotton loads
In the mute night’s hauls.
In such a cryptic clime
Window panes are beset with rime.
I hear the melody of the falling weights;
Quite familiar with those droopy gaits.
I do remember that weary waiting
For the fall of the white floppy foams.
Throwing white balls at that mellow
Revivify in me, the chaste rustic tastes.
The white sooty rimed surface
Gives a chilled look and Arctic faces.
I could store in galore for coming Races.
Note: After snowfall when the snow on the roofs began to slide down and touch the ground that gives random thuds and is quite soothing during the nights. This poem reflects the feelings of the poet in that perspective.
