Ocean Floor's Flame

By A.J.R. Mennon

Drowning

At the bottom of my ocean, I looked about but couldn’t see

Found neither Heart nor Mind to salvage me.

At the bottom of my ocean, I dared to look within:

Found sunken in my deepest darkness…a flame burning

Drawn by whose light I chose to close in

For all contradictions to burn— I saw serenity in striving

Though still mired in misfortune

Without seeing the surface

I chose to Arise, yet again.

I swam upward, clawing;

Renewed

Through and through.
