O Nature, Do You Know?

By Aprajita Rai

O Nature, do you feel our weary sighs

The trembling hopes, the unheard cries

Do rivers sense the weight we bear

And wonder why we find no shore to care

Do skies remember dreams we’ve lost

Left drifting in their golden frost

Do stars look down with tender grace

Upon the pain time can’t erase

Do trees, in hush of midnight air

Hear secrets spilled in soft despair

Or do our whispers disappear

When moonlight makes the silence clear

Do rains that kiss the earth so deep

Know we have storms we cannot weep

That we, too, tremble in the dark

Afraid to chase our fading spark

Does the bold sun, in morning’s light

Know we, too, ache to burn so bright

But dim our flame to play the part

That duty scripts upon the heart

O why not soar like birds unchained

With wings unbound, and love unfeigned

Are mountains not in stillness blessed

And we, like them, deserve such rest.
