Nothing Lasts Forever- A Scene From Twilight.

By Aashi Krishnatray

‘Forgive me.’ I say, stepping into the only ray of daylight left for the evening. The woods were dark and quiet and I could hear the crumpling of the crestfallen leaves on the ground being crushed beneath my feet. As he took off his shirt, my eyes wandered to his barren chest. As did my mind to endless possibilities of what he could say.

‘Don’t do it.’ I say as I come to the realisation that he a vampire nothing but a blood feeding creature. And that he might die.

‘Shhh’ He whispers unbuttoning the last button of his shirt.

I meet his eyes as he fully steps into the sunlight. Soon the only thing I can see is his deep blue eyes like ocean under the dying sun. I trace my eyes through his face, admiring every inch of it. From his pale white vampire skin, resisting the sun. To his lips, soft pink gleaming. To his veins pumping through his neck and collar bone. To his bare chest glowing beneath the setting sun.

I close my eyes as I try to swallow, but my throat feels choked up. I open my eyes to catch his, staring. He doesn’t say anything.

‘It’s like diamonds’ I struggle to make words.

Diamond was his body sparkling.

Pearls were his eyes twinkling.

And I was sheer stone letting his ivy grow.

I came to realise the fact that this was special moment.

But not because, the snow was melting beneath our feet, leaves were taking their last breath on the trees and the sun was dying or the moon rising. A sight humankind has covered lands to watch.

This moment was the special because of he and I. He was showing his real side to me. His dying side. His shining side.

And I was a mere spectator.

‘See?’ He says.

I take a deep breath and look into his ocean eyes. Taking in every inch of this moment.

Because nothing lasts forever.
