She knew it was too late to go back. She knew begging him to let her go would only make him happy. That merciless serial killer, she thought. Few days ago, she was thinking of ways she could kill herself, now she is thinking, why am I letting him kill me. Her mother used to tell her, the best thing anyone can do is accept what they have and vow to get something better. The best she can try for is a painless end to her life and the only way that will happen is if she shows him just how much she wants to die.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her killer’s voice. “Are you ready to die?” his voice calm and collected, his words held no emotions.

She reminded herself of her mother’s words. “Sometimes you are just born for it.” He didn’t react to her words. Those words ringed in his head. It felt like they stood in the cold forest for hours, just staring at each other. Sins she had committed, punished she was being. Death became her fall, life became her desire.

“Do you ever wonder how your victims are doing?” She asked him in a low voice but he heard it. She had seen him murder and she knew he would usually laugh at this point, but she didn’t hear that cruel laugh yet. That’s exactly when she realized why she was going to die. If she doesn’t die, she will become his responsibility and that will destroy her.

“No…” It wasn’t the entire answer but he stopped there. He saw the questioning look in her eyes and decided to complete the sentence. “...But maybe, I’ll let you be the first and only.” that completed the sentence.

She didn’t know if she should be happy that maybe he will think about her after she is dead or if she should be sad that he will still kill her. “Kill me then, but after I’m dead and buried six feet underground, I will come back to haunt you. You might kill hundreds but I will be the only one you will regret killing because none other are scarred enough to haunt a sadist.”

She thought she saw a faint smirk on his face. He slowly revealed the dagger in his hand. He brought the dagger to her neck. “Good night.” He said in a low whisper. With that she closed her eyes knowing it’s not good night yet.
