Nevertheless
By Brinda Mitra
The days pass by without me noticing.
Lifeless, joyless times
Surround the human body –
With no soul and no heart,
The dead walks through the tangle of poisonous weeds
That hold back emotions and refuse to let them out.
Nevertheless, the clouds float by
In the dark, gloomy sky;
I look up blankly
Without a feeling in my heart,
Without the twinkle in my eye
That used to be before.
Raindrops pour and fill my empty life –
Even the clouds seem to cry.
But I…
Neither do I laugh nor do I cry,
Neither do I live nor do I die;
I’ve forgotten what feelings are,
What emotions mean.
For without a soul, you cannot feel;
You exist but you somehow don’t.
The same is my condition…
I exist but I somehow don’t.
Life has turned away from me.
Suddenly, I realize…
I am no more what I used to be.
