My father was my first heartbreak,

Even though I never got to know him.

Never got to hold him.

Never got to cry on his shoulder.

Never got the first dance with him nor the last.

He was the first love I never had.

He broke my heart without me knowing who he really is.

By 11, I was crying and listening to heartbreak songs.

No, no boy involved;

Just a wound of needing a father, a wound of wanting a father nearby.

Then I lost the only photo I had of you.

I was angry and I was a baby-girl that needed her father.

Now that I am grown, heartbreaks don't hit the same anymore.

Because you were the ultimate heartbreak.
