Never Heard Her Cry

The silence in the room was no longer cold as she pulled a chair around the table in the corner. She sat, grabbing a pen from the pen-holder crowded with dozens of pens. The pen resting between her thumb and pointing finger was thin and long with a bead on top that reflected the light with glittering rays. She pulled open the drawer on her right. Inside, piled were journals of different years. She pulled out one, that A diary that read "My __" in faded ink of red on its cover. A smile blooming at the corner of her lips, Her lashes twitched as her fingers touched gently over the cover, vintage coloured cover bearing gentle scars and slight fades along the edges. Every crease spoke of fingers that had lingered, every faded edge hinted at journeys long forgotten. Opening up the diary with quiet reverence, its spine sighing softly beneath her touch. One by one, she turned the pages, each revealing gentle rustle. Finding the page she was looking for, a faint smile settled on her lips.Leaning back into her chair, she let out a slow, steady breath, the weight upon her chest easing slightly, as her heart had finally gathered the courage to let its silence turn to words.It was a page of clear white. A shade of pink and yellow bled in from the left corner, as if sunrise had quietly seeped into the paper to bring calmness after a storm.

Running her gentle palms through the page once. The nib hovered, then kissed the corner of the page. And stopped. She held the pen still and her hand no longer moved. The smile at the tip of her lips deepened.lingered up her cheeks finding its way to her eyes making them seem smaller, brighter, and impossibly alive reflecting a joy concealed. Something was beginning. A story was lining up behind her eyes. She uncapped the pen and led the pen to the left corner of the page. The nib hovered, then kissed the corner of the page. And stopped.She held the pen still and her hand no longer moved. Her eyes, still fixed at the point of the nib, her thoughts began to relate a great story. Slowly, the smile receded. The light in her eyes withdrew. The smile traveled back down her cheeks back to her lips, and vanished. A tear broke, rolling down her cheek, landed on the page, still clean, darkening the white. The nib was still kissing the same point.

Rubbing gently her tall finger on her cheek, wiping off her tears , she capped the pen and placed it back in the holder. She closed the diary and slid it back into the drawer and stood up.

Letting a steady breath, she walked towards the door, back to her daily chaos.
