Nature’s Turn- A pandemic Poem

One day, I sat on my balcony

As always sipping coffee ,

Saw soaring swallows, swaying trees

Street artists playing their melody

For themselves and no other being

No child, no bustle, no gleam.

And it made me wonder of a thing-

How will our future be?

Will the streets be empty still?

How long till we are set free?

Answers suddenly, I could hear.

Within the clouds, I could see.

A rip in the sky where the sun should be

A different world it revealed-

Except, ours, but healed

And I thought -how could it be?

Gazing at the anomaly,

I noticed an alien thing

Flying haphazardly, She came unseen.

Just Wings visible, they seemed

Worn out, broken, weak.

She flew out and in towards me,

Dropping herself at my feet.

I picked her up gingerly,

Soothing her fragile wings,

A wound across her chest bled

As the pitiful creature breathed.

Fluttering upwards, my eyes

Avoided those of the dying

And they fell upon the sky,

The bizarre and eluded scene.

A glance at once, and there seemed

People, no masks, vast noises intervened

A smile crept across my lips,

Until there was a glance twice,

Sky above them had no beam

Of light, no clouds or beings.

Dark smoke in sight, shrouding

Those suffering.

A third glance gave everything-

Humans everywhere, fighting

Stealing, killing, shredding

Their world off its life,

Their creatures off their sight.

Tears - vision was blurring

And, I could clearly see

In my arms the being last breathed.

Yet, my arms, could feel

Of nature’s grand strategy ,

Of its way to be free.

Here, now, the stolen was being

Taken, giving away the rotten given.

Nature was being the bringer

Of balance, destroyer of the fiend.

The creature in my arms limp

A reminder of the human reign

When blood shed led to the deceased.

No more, it had all ceased,

For nature had a brilliant scheme.
