Narcissus and the Unsuspecting River

Heartless beauty, concealed deceit,

Tongue laced with easy cruelty

Poisoned a River, once so sweet

Now venomous oh cruel falsity!

A devious shadow was craftily cast,

Lies seeped into vulnerable waters.

Slowly the present tortured by a past

Blotted the Sun from all that matters.

Narcissus adored, Narcissus controlled

The River gushed innocent & unwise

To darkness brewing a storm untold,

waters blackened with pain & lies.

Sickened, selfish, how utterly mistaken

Narcissus betrayed all goodness & reason.

It’s not the River the Gods had forsaken

But his broken soul, so full of treason.

Malice & power twisted in vile conceit

While the River again turned sweet

Narcissus and his shadow drowned

The River healed by Gods, crowned.

Weak was Narcissus, so undone

The River, reborn, kissed by the Sun.
