My Sun

By Kriti Arora

I still remember, vividly.

How your eyes shined

Green and yellow in the dark

Embers in a dark room –

Firelight.

Lighting up the dark forest

That was my heart.

I still remember, vividly

How you would walk into a room

Confident, gleaming

Like the Sun’s rays personified

You were, are, and will always be

My Sun

Too close, yet too far

A flame, burning brightly

Yet warm enough to touch

I still remember, vividly

Everything about you

Is burned

To the back of my

Brain.

Your elbow, your palms;

The part where your shoulder meets your neck;

The scar on your chest;

Your messy, unruly curls.

It’s all so vivid

So vivid, that

It’s killing me.

And, yet, here you are

Making it worse

By not being there

Next to me.
