My starving heart

My heart is hungry for your affection

Only left hungrier when your name is mentioned

To fill it without you would be a pointless task

But still I must wear a neutral-faced mask

I know your heart belongs to another man

So my hopes shall remain an idle plan

When I’m with you like a lark at the break of day

My heart bursts into song free of all dismay

Though my heart needs to taste the sweet ambrosia that is your love

It shall remain like an emaciated dove

My heart despises my eyes for having to blink around you

For in your countenance it sees love’s true view

Your soul is of heavenly riches untold

It brings warmth to a world that is often so cold

My hungry heart shall remain hiding

All the time itself despising

To tell you how I feel would be gluttonous of me

So it is not meant to be

And although this leaves my heart in tatters

Your happiness is the only thing that matters

Although I know we’ll always be apart

That does little to satiate my starving heart
