'कितना काम बाकी है'

अभी कितना काम बाकी है!

जीवन का प्रभात, अपराह्न, संध्या, ढल गए,

अब तो बस काली, तन्हा रात बाकी है।

अंधकार है, पर तारों की जगमगाहट

नभ में छाई है!

रात की नीरवता,

बीती सुबह को जाने कैसे आज

अनायास गुनगुनाई है?

जीवन के इस बीते संध्या काल में,

रात्रि के समान पसरते,

वृद्धावस्था में इस हाल में,

बचपन की यादें कैसे लौट आईं ?

सरदी की कुहरे से भरी सुबह में,

ज्यों सूरज की एक किरण,

मुस्कुराती उभर आई!

भरकर एक आह,

उसको हौले से सरकाकर,

स्मृति पटल से परे।

कंपकंपाते हाथों से खोले खिड़की के बंद परदे।

परदों की ओट तले,

दिखती थी बाहर की धरा।

सींच दूँ इन पौधों को जरा,

ओह ! कितनी पत्तियाँ पीली पड़ गई थीं!

गमले के आस-पास आज गिरी थीं,

सारी ही तो झड़ गईं थीं।

उसी पौधे की शाख पर खूबसूरत-सी

कली एक नई खिल आई थी !

मस्तिष्क में कौंधी बिजली-सी

बरसात आँखों में सिमट आई थी।

चिंता नहीं कितना काम बाकी है,

बीत गई जो रात...

काम भी होगा नए अंदाज़ में

नई पीढ़ी का होगा

आगाज़ ये

यही समझा है, सच्चाई यही आँकी है!

विश्रांति के इन पलों में

चलो भुला दूँ अब

कि कितना काम,

कितने दिन

कितनी रातें बाकी हैं!
