My New Year Resolution

By Ira Tembre

I was in my slumberland and this unusual-looking lady came like she was some sort of angel. I was dumbstruck.

She said,” I am a fairy.”

I said, “Are you trying to fool me? because I am too old to believe in this.”

Again, she said,” My child you’ve been chosen to defeat anger.”

I did not understand what she meant but realized this must be for the greater good of everyone. In a second we were climbing these long stairs until we came above the clouds. There the fairy showed me two islands. One was called the ‘Sober Island’ and the other was called Anger Island.

We first landed on Anger Island and followed a girl who was going to her school. As she waited at the bus stop, the bus arrived with a shrieking noise and the driver shouted at her to get on the bus quickly, as she was busy talking with her friend. We went with her to her school; it looked more like a demon’s place than a school. Children were stepping on each other and fighting like cats and dogs, even if there were class monitors, they would turn a blind eye towards them and just fight, during Mid-Day Meal they would push others’ plates, and poor support staff needed to clean it, none of them listened to the teacher and teachers needed to shout on top of their voice.

However, in Sober Land, it was just the opposite.

People were kind and polite to each other. The school bus driver was nice that he opened the door for you and welcomed you, there was no rush on the stairs or students pushing each other. Class Monitors? Well, there was no need as students were well-behaved, they would listen to teachers and were attentive in class.

When we finished the tour, it felt like Deja Vu. I explained to the fairy our school is more like Sober Land as it has decided to be aggression free. While I was explaining there was a loud thud and continued. . ..

It was the sound of my alarm clock. I took a rapid slide down my slumberland and was back in the real world.

While I got ready for my school, I thought we all take pledges but forget it by the evening. So, this new year I take a pledge and make a resolution to be anger-free!!!
