My Mother’s Kurti

I am my mother's height, perhaps we are the same size

but her kurti still hangs odd on my body

the shape quite not right

half an inch- droopy on the shoulders,

and wider sleeves fall down my hands

we may be similar sizes but we are not the same brand.

I do wear her clothes, more occasionally

for they hold sentiment and value

beautiful, sometimes they fall prettily

from afar all is well,

but somewhere is an itch I can’t quite tell

I will still borrow her wardrobe

whenever I am lost

however, I can only ever wear myself and you can only ever wear you

No matter the cost.
