My Mind is A Cage

Words freed from my head,

My head a place of voices.

Voices that yell, scream, havoc,

Like storms on a lazy night.

My hands itch,

My skin prickles,

My chest warps,

Yet nothing seems to change.

My mind is a cage.

My ringtone has me upright,

Sky as dark as night,

Midnight fills my brain,

I fall again.

My mind is a cage.

Too much, too fast,

How long is this feeling going to last? Tears ricochet and tumble,

Ponder the breaths I assume will cease me. My mind is a cage.

Losing life a fearful thought,

Yet remains lingering, afloat if not. Being a burden is one,

Cursed heart filled with doubt makes two, Cut it short before my feelings do. My mind is a cage.

Birds are my friends,

Free, frolicking of no restrain.

I wish my wings were strong enough, Wish my beak was sharp enough. To join them in the sky,

My mind is a cage.

Days pass, weeks melt,

No more flock awaits me.

I’m all alone.

Each day, my thoughts thicken,

The bars strengthen with the words of others.

My mind is a cage.
