My Little Princess Nazli
By Sumithra Devi R
Hi everyone! Today I thought of writing a short story. But I was thinking what it would be about. About a moment later, an image came to my mind. It is of a little and cute girl. This girl was introduced to me by my elder sister. Introduced? It may not be the right word, because I don’t know that girl personally. Then what could it be? Yaah! I came to know about that little girl from my sister. Now you might be thinking why am I wasting your time by expressing my casual thoughts, right? Ok fine, let’s move straight into the matter.
Nazli Yildiz is a little girl of three who live in Istanbul, Turkey. She is called as Nazlu by her family, her relatives and even by her fans. You might be wondering now right! Just a girl of three has fans? You will be thinking that she might be the daughter of a royal dynasty and that may be the reason why she is so famous that she is having fans. But no! She is from a normal family background. By now, you will be too curious to know more about her – about her appearance and what is it that made her famous.
Ok then. Now I am not gonna waste your time. I am going to try my level best to describe her. Come with me. Let me try my level best to give you an image of her in your mind’s eye. She will surely get a place in your heart.
This cute girl has a plain forehead, thin eyebrows, golden brown eyes with short eye lashes, a round curvy nose, chubby smooth cheeks, petal like lips and a soft chin. Below the face is a concave neck, moving on to straight shoulders, creamy hands with tiny palms and even tiny fingers. She has a small body with a mini balloon-like stomach. She has slim legs with sliding toes with little fingers on them.
Now you guys might have got a clear idea of how she looks like. You have met a beautiful little princess. Isn’t it?
She also has another name: Kumpiriyanak. You may be exclaimed to hear such a unique name and might be thinking what it means. Kumpiriyanak means nothing but “the little potato”. Hahaha! The innocent girl is called “the little potato”. She was like a potato when she was one or two years old. Now she is no more a potato. She is an epitome of beauty. But it is a fun to call her so!
Now you would love to know the activities she engage in, her daily routine, right?
She wakes up when the sun rays fall to her eyes, after making the whole world ready for her to view. Usually when she wakes up she likes to see the beauty of Istanbul, which is either covered in snow or in greenery. She notices the scenery giving special attention to all the things like the nature, including the living and non-living creatures, the sky and the soil or the snow, the park, the malls etc... Then after having a bath, she comes to eat food like tomatoes (domates), cucumber (salatalik), eggs (yumurta), bread (ekmek) with cheese (peynir). These foods make her breakfast, lunch and dinner. Like all children, she also loves to eat chocolates and cakes, which her grandparents provide her with.
After that, she goes to a kindergarten, where she likes to learn new rhymes and songs, singing along with her teachers and friends. In the afternoon, she returns home. After having a short nap, she goes to the nearby park with her parents to play in swings and slides. On the way, she never forgets to play with birds and animals. Among the animals, she especially loves cat – she enjoys giving cats food and rubbing its head. Then, she loves to visit shops - to have food, toys and clothes.
After spending a few hours there, she, once in a while visits her grandparents’ house. She enjoys playing with her grandparents. The grandfather takes her up in his arms and walks along the entire house. When she sees the hens and the small chicks there, she likes to take it up in arms. She often takes the eggs lying there and gives it to her grandparents. But sometimes, it falls from her hands and breaks; she then controls the little laugh and tries to hide it by covering her face with her smooth hands. Her grandparents also laugh along with her. Then they go inside and Nazlu play with the toys she have at the grandparents’ house. Once or twice in those days, she also gets a surprise from them. What is the surprise? It may be some toys or her photos or videos. Otherwise it may be a cake. Have you imagined a big cake for all of them to have? Yes, right? But it may not necessarily be. Why? Because she is such an innocent child that she finds happiness even at minutest things. On her birthday, Nazlu was given a small cupcake. But the happiness that bloomed on her face melts our hearts away.
Returning home, she loves to hear songs like baby shark and to dance along with it, taking toys in hand occasionally. She also loves watching the videos and photos of her earlier years of life. After some time, she yawns, which denotes that it’s time for sleep. Then her parents take her to bed where the mother sings songs for her and her father pats her on the back to put her to sleep. When the lights are switched off, and only the moonlight and starlight falls on her, she seems to be sleeping like a princess.
Now everyone has to keep silence and observe the innocent child, the princess, in the bed. It’s great to look at her, right? Our mind also becomes calm and peaceful, isn’t it? Then let us go to a peaceful sleep too, like Nazli, wishing that her days be always happy like this forever. Good Night and Sweet Dreams Nazli.
