My Final Tribute to Number 13

When I heard the news, tears filled my eyes

Asked myself questions starting with “how’s” and “whys”

Please tell me it’s a prank, a joke, a game…

It only hit me when on the news I saw your name

The tides pulled you away from us

One empty seat on that return bus

Guilt took over your teammates

The response was just too late

Our happiest memories now live in forever

They are shatter proof, the purest of treasures

Reminds me of how you fought for silver while I defended gold;

And all the laughs shared when inside jokes were told

I’ll miss those eyes and that smile

The effort you put into your style

I appreciated your consistent honesty

Coupled surprisingly with a hint of modesty

It brings me immense pain

To say ‘til we meet again

RIP to such a beautiful soul

We’ll heal but we’ll never again feel hole
