My Diwali Expreience

By Gagan V R

Diwali is a happy Indian festival also called as Deepawali which means rows of lit lamps.

It was the rainy night of 2nd November 2021. I was awake until the clock struck 12 as it was the starting of the light festival

Diwali. It is celebrated to mark Lord Rama’s victory over evil Ravana and his return from the forest of Dandakaranya and to his Kingdom of Ayodhaya after 14 years in exile.

Every Diwali I have the best time with friends and family. The three-day festival starts with Dhanteras, the day where we, as a family pray for good health and wellness. The next day is Naraka Chaturdashi. This day we oil ourselves and have a nice bath, we decorate the house with colourful rangoli, fresh flowers and lights around the house. We prepare variety of sweets and invite family and friends to join us in celebrations. In the evening it’s time for some flowerpots and sparkles to wade off darkness.

The next day is the Lakshmi Pooja, where we pray and seek the Goddess of wealth to bless us abundantly.

A major part of this festival is about having loads of fun with loved ones and Diwali is my most favourite festival as it is about spending quality time with loved ones, be it eating or sharing yummy sweets. In the evening decorating our home by lighting diyas not to mention bursting crackers too. The true joy is watching all the lit diyas brightening our hearts. Later in the night, I eagerly wait for releasing lanterns into the sky. Indeed, it’s an experience I cherish the most.
