Ms. Recycle Saves The Day!
By Vaani Tantia
One bright Sunday morning, I threw open the windows of my room to take a breath of fresh air. What hit my nostrils instead was a strange smell of oil and stale food. It seemed like the new tea and snack shop had finally opened its doors to the public, right next to my house. Later that day, when I was leaving home, I saw a large crowd gathered outside the brand-new shop along with lots of cars parked in the no-parking zones and loud honking as well. There were a few dustbins but a lot of the garbage had been thrown around on the pavement! It was quite a disturbing sight in our usually quiet and clean neighbourhood! It was a combination of all kinds of pollution.
My mind raced around thinking of a solution to this new menace! What we needed was a superhero! Someone with special powers to set things right. I started writing a list of superpowers this superhero needed and put out an advertisement in the newspapers:
****HIRING****
A Superhero or Superwoman with the following superpowers
Power to zap all garbage into instantly recycled material
Strength to lift cars out of No-Parking Zones
Ability to mute horns of cars that are too noisy
We got lots of applications but the most promising was Ms. Recycle. She was an enthusiastic sort and got to work right away. She made all the plastic cups into planters, carboard boxes into dustbins, and many more innovative things. In her spare time, she started planting saplings in different places. She silenced the horns on the loud cars and easily lifted cars out of no parking areas. The people in the neighbourhood were so impressed to see Ms. Recycle work that they all got inspired to join her. People visiting the tea shop also realised the value of cleanliness and started throwing their garbage into bins.
Soon our neighbourhood became spick and span. People from other areas started visiting us to see how to clean it was, and improve their spaces. We soon realised that we did not need Ms. Recycle anymore. After thanking her for a job well done, we gave her a grand farewell. Ms. Recycle told us to continue to keep our neighbourhood clean. She had a long waiting list of other neighbourhoods which wanted to hire her, so she picked the one that needed most help and went off on another recycling adventure!
