For my mother

Who always got up to serve my brother a plate of food

Who cares for him more than she should

Who thinks he is still small and needs her

He is 30 for gods sake can you lever

I’m not mad that the love that you have for him is so different than the kind of love you have for me

I’m mad cause it represents every single thing I hate about patriarchy

He shouldn’t lift a finger

Oh how could he

He doesn’t have basic living qualities

You raised him to be everything that I hate in a guy

And I cant help but comply

Your love for him is so loud

And so blind

You wouldn’t see me if I was cut open and lying

But that’s how love between mother and a daughter is

You represent everything I’m afraid to become

And I represent everything u could have been

I’m mad cause u told me to give up

You told me to comply

This is how it is you wouldn’t make any difference so u don’t need to try

May be reality hasn’t hit me yet

And I would end up exactly like you

Serving someone else a plate of food
