More Than a Symbol

I won’t be another song

Known for the chorus,

Yet the symphony forgotten,

Simply because the language

Was one often misinterpreted.

I won’t be another painting

Known for its beauty,

Yet left to hang in a corner,

Simply because it was too artistic

For the bidders to recognise .

I won’t be another monument

Known for being unparalleled,

Yet often exploited,

Simply because it was no longer

Someone’s everything.

Yet I’m nothing,

But another human .

Trying to make it through life,

Often  misunderstood ,

Often not seen for oneself .

Just another human,

Who’s spent too long

Trying to be my own something,

For me to now be someone’s everything .
