Monstrous Night

By Mehana Agnihotri

A night seems to stretch on

An endless black abyss

The stars twinkle in the heavens

Cruelly mocking my plight

The goddess of sleep

May not bless me

But nightmares certainly do

As the darkness cocoons me

In her deadly hue

The screams still haunt my ears

As the world burns before me

The smoke filling my lungs

As I see the destruction unfolding

Everything is gone

But the memories remain

Monsters that hide

Under my mind

Showing their fangs

When nothing

But the endless dark

Of the night remains
