Molly’s Lucky doll.
By Vaani Tantia
Once there was a called Molly. She used to live with her parents and her brother Harry. One day her uncle came to visit and gave Molly a tiny doll. “This doll is a very lucky one. Do not give it to anyone” he told her. Molly nodded.
That week Molly had loads of good luck. She got top marks for almost all her subjects, was invited to three parties, and got a new bicycle.
Though somebody was having extremely bad luck that week. It was Harry. He was bottom in all his subjects, had quarrelled with his best friend, got a scolding from his master for not doing his homework, and broke his bicycle.
“Well, Harry what bad luck you have had this week. Molly was top in all her subjects and you were bottom. You should have studied more as she did. And on top of that, you have broken your bicycle. I am not buying you another one that is for sure” scolded his mother. But Harry was in a bad temper and stormed off into his room banging the door behind him.
“Molly, will you lend me your lucky doll? As you know I have had terrible luck and want good luck for a change. But Molly made a face and said “Shan’t” “But why” raged Harry. “Because you are forgetful and don’t remember where you keep things,” said Molly.
He went out with a grimace. “Oh dear, Harry will now try to steal my lucky doll,” thought Molly. I shall hide in my bicycle’s bell.
But the next time she went to take her lucky doll it was missing. She marched off to Harry’s room and said “How dare you take my lucky doll” “What lucky doll? I haven’t taken any lucky doll,” said Harry. But Molly knew that Harry had taken her beloved doll.
That week Harry had all the luck instead of Molly. He won a football match, got top marks in all subjects, was invited to a sleepover, and got extra money from their aunt.
Meanwhile, Molly was getting bad luck. She was bottom in Maths and English, got a scolding from their mother for being cheeky, and got hurt.
One day Molly told her mother what had happened. “Mummy I’m sure Harry has taken my lucky doll,” she said.
“Harry, have you taken Molly’s lucky doll,” Mother asked sharply. “Yes. I took it because Molly always gets all the good luck while I get bad luck” he said. “Molly gets good luck because she is obedient but on the other hand, you are naughty and disobedient. Start being like Molly; you too will get loads of good luck,” said Mother.
