MODERN LIFESTYLE HAS MADE US DISEASED
By Nidhi Karambelkar
In this modern world, with the advance technology, we have flourished a lot in terms of developments and making the world a better and smaller place to live and interact. However, as the famous key figure of science, Newton stated that “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction”, its clear that even this scientific evolution may have some pros and cons.
In the context of making the world turn into a family and make a human’s life more sophisticated and relaxed, we overlooked quite a few things which on a longer run would impact our health, life and relations in a manner we cannot interpret.
With the discovery of social networking sites and all the new machinery and equipments, it is seen that human has become more and more machine dependent in terms of all kinds of works, be it communication, gathering information, running errands or doing silliest or most significant of things. We, as humans were characterized better than other creatures because of our abililty to think, imagine, react, evaluate and understand situations, and our skill to express our feelings.
However, in this world of Artificial Intelligence and machinery, we have turned into the slaves of materialistic things. We have forgotten our evolution and connection with nature and other human beings. Technology and electrical equipments have become our weakness, as while engaged with them, we need no one or nothing as a support, but without these, our life seems impossible to cease. We have become so dependent on such gadgets, that our life now revolves around them. Be it our obligation to work with them, or our growing interest, but in some or the other way, it is making us a dependent machine which has all the working parts, yet needs just oil to undergo some work.
Our physical workout and our imaginations and creativity has abruptly been blocked to a certain extent as we no more think or work or try for solutions, rather we try to find them through the internet. We have become so engrossed in getting through these sites, apps and appliances, that we have stopped communicating and interacting with people around us. We no more share grief and happiness with each other, rather we need someone to show them off about all what we have and they don’t .
Lack of proper communication, which is the major drawback in today’s world is the key to countable no. of problems. Plus the constant bickering around the apps and hardware would take a toll on our physical health as we tend to get so deep into these that we neglect the need of locomotion in our body.
Socializing has become so important in our lives nowadays, that we no more live the moment, but take extra efforts to capture them to reminisce in future. We no more want to reflect our personalities through our dressing and appearance and talks, but we rather transform ourselves into the one who would get proper attention and compliments from the people around. We no more need friends to support us, we need them to show the world that we have one and seek attention. We no more do things coz we love them, but we do them either to socialize or to get recognition with the things that are trending.
Since generations, the tendency to meet and talk with people, sharing and enjoying moments, reading from newspapers, gathering knowledge from books, celebrating festivities together was all done to lead a simple life with least variables. However everything took a U turn with the evolvement of social media. We tend to record and share every moment of life on social media be it doing daily chores or anything special. We tend to achieve things so that we can prove it out to the world. We often celebrate and dress up, and perform certain rituals, only to show it to the world, not coz it holds any historical importance. Social media chats have become so common that we have just nothing to talk about when face to face. To delve deeper into the phone, we often neglect what our elders are sharing as a piece of advice. We no more share people’s grief or other social issues to find solutions to them, but to rather be proud that we were responsible to share this crucial news. Nowadays, we need posts and stories to show our love for our nation, to show our pain and support for the victims, to make people understand their wrongdoings. We are no more into that happy zone where we enjoy the moments, we often live them to show to people. Instead of taking actions to help solve people’s misery, we are busy highlighting them on social media. Taking selfies and making boomerangs and snaps has become so common, that we no more regret even giving away our lives, or wasting this precious time of ours.
Also, we have become such lazy lads, that we want all actions to be performed just on a finger tap. We no more want any kind of physical activity or rigorous training. We have become so messed up in our own lives, that we tend to take other’s problems as a publicity stunt, or a minor issue, and instead of supporting the, we criticize them.
In all in all we can say that, we have become social animals who just crave for attention and relaxation. We lack proper communication, we lack the small happy moments in life, we lack the identity of ourselves as a person and we lack the understanding of people’s problems and situations. We now, runaway from rigorous hardwork, and find peace in just materialistic things which would just hamper our body and soul .
So , finally, the conclusion to the discussion comes to be that even though socializing and working with machinery has become a crucial part of our lives, we must not forgot what are our abilities as humans. We must not leave the intrinsic and basic character of what a human is and should always respect the nature and the organisms that have so far helped us to become able to survive in this beautiful yet progressive world. We must think about it and should take very possible step to make it better, and save it from the disasters. And for this, all of us need to be hand in hand. And for that, we need to come out of this virtual world to actually understand each other, lessen the communication gap and keep spreading joy all around. Coz afterall, this virtuality can never become a reality. So instead of trusting machines over humans and fighting with the world, lets make some small efforts for the people around us and introspect ourselves from our heart, to know, understand and explore everything with a far better perspective. Lets not allow our soul and body to become barren, but let it flourish with the love and care the nature and people provide; not with the abstract things which would never be responsible for either our prosperity or our destruction.
So let us all together calm our souls to get the better of the horrible dependable species we have become and make ourselves a hybrid version of actual human essence.
