Mischief

By Gayatri

I'll allow myself this mischief if that's fine, tonight

To give into myself and to consider you mine, tonight

I'll imagine you laughing at the things that I say

I'll assume that you really wish you could stay

I'll pretend I feel loved just by your presence

I'll believe it so much I won't feel the pretense

I'll allow myself this mischief if that's fine, tonight

I'll do it only if it's not too out of line, tonight

I'll tell you all about how I feel, you will see

And then I'll pretend you said it all back to me

Said it all with as much, if not more, honesty

What a dream coming to life, that would be

I'll allow myself this mischief if that's fine, tonight

I'll allow it because you being here is a sign, tonight

Because once tonight ends

Loneliness will be borne, again

And as tomorrow dawns

You will be gone, again.
