Mirror, Mirror

By Tarika Vaitheeswaran

"Mirror , mirror  on the wall

Who's the fairest of them all?"

I braced myself to behold a beauty

With Luscious locks, a figure so dainty

But the mirror remained thin and tall

It  stared back, not making a call

The truth won't break me, I'm much too strong

Reveal the maiden, it shouldn't take long

I must know, I want her found

I pleaded  with the mirror, fell to the ground

"Rise, child, you are no different from other folk"

I raised my head ,startled, it was the mirror that spoke

"Beauty lies not in what pleases the eye

It cannot be found in the magnificent hues of the sky

Rather, it is the little thing always by your side

Who comforted you each time you cried

She cannot be touched, she cannot be seen

The fairest reflection is the love you convene"
