Migraine

Razor’s edge, deadly thin,

slices into your tender skin.

Dagger’s point pressed

pierces your flesh,

strikes your bone,

steals your breath.

Sledge hammer swings,

cracks your skull, bashes your brain.

Ears endlessly ring

with the mind-blowing refrain.

Just you,

alone,

hear migraine’s megaphone.

Barely bearing

the too familiar pain

that impales you, that guts you

time and again.

You stay silent, so still

for as long as it lasts,

pleading, praying,

“Thank God this too shall pass.”
