Midnight Scare

By Suhani Sunil Siyal

Laying in bed late at night, too terrified to sleep. After watching horror movies Sarah had begun contemplating her decisions. Especially after hearing a loud creak coming from the attic storage area. Her mind went into a full spiral." What if someone broke in?" she thought, "What if they're trying to kill me?" And on and on the spiral continued.

For five whole minutes, she laid there not moving a muscle, her heart jumping out of her chest. Flashbacks to the movie began mixing with reality. As every heartbeat passed, her worry only shot higher until she couldn't take it anymore. The suspense was killing her still petrified, she took a torch and as slow as a snail walked down to the kitchen onning the lights one by one and taking ant-like steps as she moved.

Once she was down in the kitchen she opened a drawer as quietly as she could, and took out a knife. After the movie, she watched she didn't want to take any chances being unprepared in case someone broke in. Once she had gathered enough confidence she began heading toward the attic. With a knife in her right hand and a torch in her left, she was ready, ready to ounce when the need arose.

With her heart beating louder with every step she took, she finally made her way to the attic door. The sound was louder now, more terrifying but she couldn't turn back now… So she turned the doorknob opening to the attic, which she then slowly entered. Her knife was prepared and BOOM!! She kicked the door down only to burst out laughing.

The strong winds had blasted the attic windows open, and the creek came from a tree that had fallen. Turns out the branches were slashing into her house walls. After some time Sarah composed herself, purely because she didn't want to wake her neighbors, and slept like a log the rest of the night.
