Memories

By Annayshi Mitra

Do you believe that objects have memories?

Your favourite childhood story;

Do you hope that the characters miss you?

In their world you were their biggest fan, Waiting on your loneliest birthdays to wish you

The blanket you used to sob into, Does it yearn for your warmth?

For your untold stories of pain and joy Waiting for your embrace in the coldest fall

The glass where he poured his wine, Your lipstick's mark lingering on the corner Laughing; intoxicated by his tales,

Waiting to know if he became your lover

The shoes you once wore out, The pen that wrote your first words The ring your mother passed to you The money you saved in your old purse

Do you believe they have memories?

Thoughts and fragments of your history

Do you miss them like they do you?

Or have you become a stranger to yourself

Since last June?
