Melancholia
By Shalmali Dharmadhikari
MELANCHOLIA
The darkness gazes upon you
Or does it just lie within
And everything is merely a reflection,
Of life with all its din.
You try to camouflage yourself
Be ensconced in your shell forever,
But little do you know, that by this,
It was yourself you did sever.
The fallen wave does rise again,
Standing stoic-little does it falter
But soon enough,hard it strikes,
Only to join the endless waters.
Relentlessly you chase the gleam,
Hoping you’d find your way.
But it’s the brightest light that augments the shadows,
Alas,you’ll always remain astray.
Alone you stand in the present,
In this overcrowded maze,
Moving on as nobody
The past and future a haze.
Life is treacherous -with its deceptions and hauls
Condemned to die we stand in queue.
And so you surrender to this pandemonium,
Only to bid it an early adieu.
