Meeting My Best Friend After A Decade

By Supreetha Sivakumar

A birthday wish from that special person changed the entire flow of my life. It happened on my 21st birthday . The entire day went so well and good with lots and lots of wishes and gifts. But I was able to experience the real happiness and enjoy joy to the core of my heart after that phone call. Yes, it was my friend from school. Back then, we were friends but not that close as we are today . The last birthday we celebrated together was my 17th birthday . We lost touch after my high school and the reunion happened on the very auspicious day of the year , My Birthday.

It was around 7 in the evening , She called me . Initially words out of my mouth flew out surprise , joy , shock , happiness and a culmination of all the human emotions. I started screaming in happiness. We spoke for hours together. We spoke the next day and the following too. We shared every single story and every single incident that happened in that period of time we weren’t in contact.

Lots of stories and introduction of so many new people created a different kind of feeling in me. At times , I felt like I lost my old friend . It was hard to digest that she had other friends than me. Later , She started sharing about her sorrows and pain she gone through without me. That started hurting and haunting me. Only then I realised that , Life is too short to hold on grudge on other people and wait for others to take step always.

After that , we became so closer to each other. Finally, we decided to meet. We planned a weekend trip to Bangalore , our dream location. Even though it was a short period of time , we explored Bangalore the most. We tried the most authentic foods of Karnataka. Meeting people in person will ignite our soul and have a beautiful and positive impact on our lives.
