Mathematics

This is a rant, a complaint,

About how something beautiful,

Is so very difficult, that,

Its beauty seems incomprehensible.

That is mathematics to me.

I know that it is beautiful.

I know that it holds secrets.

Secrets about our lives,

About this universe.

I know that it is the key.

Key to our future, to our past,

But it slips out of my hands.

As if the secrets of this universe,

Aren’t mine to unravel.

So, here I am, complaining,

In the only language I know,

How the language of the universe

Seems to escape from me,

Again and again, leaving me yearning,

To see its beauty, to learn its secrets.

But,you dodgy wicked Mathematics,

You give me just enough,

To keep me guessing and yearning,

For your beauty and your secrets.
