Marriage And Divorce

By Banani Sikdar

Marriage says, I love you,

Divorce replies, I can't abide by you.

Marriage affirms, We can make it together,

Divorce resigns, We will not try it any longer.

Marriage believes in To have and to hold,

Divorce dictates, To leave and to forsake.

Marriage promises, For better or for worse,

Divorce counters, For better, but not for worse.

Marriage vows, Till Death do part us,

Divorce mocks, We can't wait that long.

Marriage says, We exchange rings as love token,

Divorce negates, We return the ineffectual rings.

Marriage assures, Hold on to my promises,

Divorce retaliates, Promises are made to be broken.

Marriage exclaims, You are so accommodating!!

Divorce complains, You are the meanest of all.

Marriage suggests, Let's talk out the issue,

Divorce asserts, You make everything an issue.

Marriage acknowledges, You are the best thing happened in my life!!

Divorce retorts, Worst of all, You ruined my life.

Marriage calls for solemnization,

Divorce waits for notifications.

Marriage pronounces, Whom God has joined,

Divorce concludes, Let man put asunder.

Marriages are made in Heaven, Insured by God's signature of benevolence,

The premiums being, Love, Loyalty and Togetherness,

Paid regularly by jaunty couples in all zealousness.

Divorce is the remonstration of God, For couples, who abuse the blissful concord.

A glimpse of the poem by the couples in the corridors of the Family Courts across India may have a re-look at their life.
