Marathon

My eyes are so heavy

My mind is on a marathon

A half-baked presentation prep

A meaningless compliment

An incomplete conversation with a friend

That word I could have used instead of another

That hug I didn't give my brother

The words that could calm someone

My mind on a marathon

of running away from every thought that matters

of running away from answers, that will lead to more questions

of running away from reasons why my eyes are so heavy in the first place

of running away, from myself

of letting me add another brick to curb my feelings

and finding words and poetry to run further away

my mind on a marathon
