Make Beauty

By Jazlyn Mara

This is for the ones who have to say,

“If you knew me in highschool…”

maybe unknowingly

you watched a beautiful rose

be buried

continuously crushed and

unwillingly hidden from the light,

scorched sometimes

and even forced

to grow thorns.

you witnessed them wilt

a thousand times

but bloom through cracks anyway,

all before they even knew their colour.

If you knew them in highschool

then you didn’t

But if you know them now

you’re witnessing a survivor

make beauty out of trauma.
