Macaroons and lemon pastries

I fancied falling in love today

Who with? You might ask and I’d say,

It truly hardly matters,

beauty’s not my lot

I may just go and try someone

out in the parking lot

There’s always someone to be found

Helpless, shopping strewn on the ground

hoping that some kindly soul

would lend a helping hand

A good enough way to break the ice,

help out a bit, become a friend

And slowly inch your way into

A heart that’s on the mend

With witty jokes and innuendos

Sometimes a naughty blend

To create that bit of space you need

A means unto an end

And then the subtle invite

“Come have some tea with me”!

I jumped right in with longish strides

there were macaroons

and lemon pastries besides

Then I recalled my grandmother

Her oft repeated phrase

“The way to a man’s heart my dear,

Is good food on loaded trays”

And here was I all fanciful

hoping I’d find someone to love

I was guided all the way by God

from Heaven up above
