Loved by a rogue Lily
By Eulalia S N
I live by the road, passionate and wild
Never pruned, I’m no one’s delight.
I grow with weeds as unethical as me
I ain’t a blossom you’d tend to; I’m just a rogue lily.
Watered by heavens, whispered to by angels
I flourished in my own right
Blooming through the pavement’s concrete crack
Which was meant to ensure I never grow back.
But one fateful day, a voice from the window spoke to me
He said he liked my spirit - free and unruly.
Everyday he spoke of things beyond that fence
Of gardens, lakes and forests dense.
The charming breeze or the rain that trickled over me
None had the enigma; which was he.
To a soul so kind, gentle and true
I gave him my heart in an illegal truce.
I was so in love that I fought against the norms
Rain’s my ally, but I even braved the storms.
Through summer heat, that kills me dry
I bloomed for him and for him I cried.
I watched as he watered his scented roses
Believing he’d see my love for him.
But one stormy night he made it clear
He’d never want a lily that’s a pavement dweller.
I am, my dear, not your rose or dahlia
Which blooms and stays for days.
I’m a lily of the night, that’s dies by noon.
But with a kiss of moon will bloom again.
You can’t put me in a vase
I will not stay
You can’t cut me to gift someone
I’m too fragile and will wither away.
This cement rock is where I belong
I sway to the winds and sing wild songs
I’m everything you love, and everything you’d never want
You pluck me once and I’m gone.
Yet in ways imperfect and with all that’s heathen in me
I’ll love you still…
Standing by your window side, a forgotten wild lily
A whore to the world, but my soul for you - a Divinity!
