Love's Vow
By Raashid Naqib
Ooh! My friend, my pal
Life has us both conquered
Your way is no different than my path
We pray that God is not yet upset with us
Indeed, we deserve a much harsher life
But, He the most divine, is also the most merciful
It is His voice and light that brings the heart alive
Alas! By my own hand; I’ve robbed my Soul blind
I chose the separation of the two hearts that are in love
Are you more wicked than I; my afterlife?
Question not my sincerity; I have bled for thee again
Thy vane-self is not inducing of any kind remark
That when I was here; present in the world
I spoke with the besieged wall outside my beloved’s city
How unfortunate that the shade of the Home lasts nowhere
Alone, deserted, and starving; at last, carefree; we roam each other
Her eyes are the Oceans that host my ambiguity
When she intends upon proclaiming; yes, who doth await thee?
If I were to be at peace, someday; I would talk with you, for ages to come
I would tell you; how I understand, how all is related to I
I truly accept all the blame; all the sin and the misdeed
Murdered, I’ve your heart not; loved? I do utmost dearly
When the slow rain starts pouring, when the minute birds dance in the sky
I chose this moment to whisper my secret; I am in love with you
True freedom lies not in romance alone but, does in her embrace
I know not of how I am tolerated by her but, I know that I am accepted
They are prejudiced against a man, and are inviting him to abide by this sin, for life
Even if I were to relinquish it all; my truth still lives and dies with I, alone
There is a house beyond the woods; only the lost ones call it their home
My behavior of late has been a disaster, thus, I banish my person from my control
