Love Does not Conquer All

By Divija Vishal Chinchkar

Here’s to the lights you planted in my hiraeth,

To the chirps of the bluebirds that thrived there,

Perhaps I was the Anenas in your story.

One that hoped to plant ivy

in the eden of your mind.

The same eden,

from where your beautiful thoughts emanate.

My bewitched mind takes me back

to the willow tree and

things you confessed to me

with your hands sheathing mine,

Syne, I believed,

that I could have your heart forevermore.

Perhaps we were meant to be ephemeral or

perhaps our hearts intertwined only halfway.

Nevertheless, I realize

I have to let you go to water my ambitions

and you were only an ethereal mnemonic for that,

But we’ll be alright.

We were destined to meet

so that we could drown in the oblivion of love

then burst the bubble ourselves

because after all,

love does not conquer all.
