Lontano
By Avani Tiwari
Atop the sand dune,
Sitting, I hum our tune.
Yearning eyes, Staring at the moon,
Only comforting lie
In a pool of cruel truth.
The winds pass by,
Asking me why?
And yet, I couldn't reply,
That I'm waiting for thee,
Wishing for thee to call me thine.
The winds erased my footprints in jealousy,
Saying even it loved me,
But I didn't show enough courtesy.
Is that why you cannot find me?
The night is beautiful, I know
Not the right time for remorse to show.
But this feeling I have, I can't just throw.
I see thee everywhere, since.
My lake, my woods,
To them, an illusion unhinged.
A calloused life, my feelings? A sin.
Their words prickly, my heart sinks.
I've seen many, as they call, a mirage,
Yet thee, I see no more, Even as a mirage.
Oh, have you forgotten me?
Or can you not find the way back?
They preach to me,
The ones who are gone,
they say,
With them, you never get along........
Still, I don't believe,
Waiting for you is wrong.
Where you're at now, is it so alluring to be,
That you wouldn't want to come back to me?
I don't know where you are,
Or why I can't reach you,
But some whisper its name---Lontano.
