'In the midst of the city, there exists Lyra.Just exists.', once again she glanced through the very fresh words that have already been looking at her. It was enough, at the same time never enough for her. Her diary, her autobiography, whatever she is never can be concluded in one single sentence. Rather, it was true that her whole life just mirrored this one single sentence. It was her, Lyra, the one girl who fails to understand the beats of the city. Does it even have a beat? If she fails to feel that, it means she had already felt the beat before, somewhere in the past.
Library was never new to her compared to that of her classmates. It was the first time after coming to the city she was entering the library. After her parents got separated she had no other option than to leave her dad and little brother and move into a new unknown city with her mother. A seventeen year old had braced up her whole life within the countryside and the new world was strange yet terrifying to her. Lyra fell in love with words through her dad at a very young age and now it has become impossible for her to scribble down even if it's about her own life. As to invoke her 'about to lose love' for writing she goes through certain books in the library. Being a countryside girl she finds a book that seems like her home.
A book about elephants.
'Within the dense forest there lived a herd of elephants. They lived together for a long time. Their ancestors have lived and died within the forest. They gave birth to a new spectrum of the forest itself. There were no Lion kings in the forest yet there were agile elephants. The whole forest worshipped them. They made the forest alive. It didn't take much time for the humans to conquer their home land. Days gone by, years gone by they carved up half of their home land and started vegetation there. The entire forest shooked. Sense of security became a man sized question between the forest beings. Their whole world shattered. The elephants had no other options rather than to step outside their cosy place. They started looking for food around their take over land and the humans find it terrifying. The very fact that they have conquered that beings homeland was never a fact for them. It was the baby elephants who found it interesting roaming around the place. He played, he swayed with nature. The humans were running away from him, being afraid of him. He was just enjoying his time being outside the forest. Days passed by humans finding it is inconvenient for them to stay there as the baby elephant spent most of his time outside the forest area. Feared by him they decided to move the baby elephant to another forest with the government's approval.
Planning was done, the officers were ready, the whole crowd was awaiting for the elephant to get captured and to move out of the region. Even though many attempts were failed, finally he was caught and sent to another forest to keep safe those humans who conquered his home land. Him being very little was put alone in a strange and mysterious forest. He found it terrible and he was scared . He was left alone, kept away from his parents and siblings, his whole family, his whole friends. He was the long lost one to his homeland. One thing everyone failed to understand is that would he be able to live there? and it was true. He couldn't ,the forest killed him. No it wasn't the forest.'
As she closed the book she felt a shiver all around her body. Lyra finds a strange feeling within her. Her thoughts were never on that long lost elephant, nor on the forest. She took out the book from her bag and tried to express her feelings. As she opens her book she goes through the one single sentence she wrote before, 'In the midst of the city, there exists Lyra.Just exists'. Realisation hits her hard that it was never about the elephant ! It wasn't him that was long lost, it wasn't him !
