Little Lost penguin

By Tanushree Kar

Little lost penguin searching for a home.

She had a mother – but now she’s alone.

Asked several others but they had their kids

Asked another, but they hurt her cause she was weak.

Tears in her eyes, blood dripping from her head

She started questioning

If their hearts were made of lead.

Little lost penguin left alone to die

The snow froze her feelings

and the tiny droplets she cried.

She went to the river filled with icy cold water

She took a leap – in hope to meet her mother

That’s when she saw a withered reflection

Two warm hands embracing her in an instant

She felt the same warmth

as she felt when she was an infant.

White hair, blue eyes, an old wrinkled face.

Keeping her warm and fuzzy – just by the fireplace

He shared stories with her – about his son

A young lad who shone the brightest upon.

Now, that he’s gone and settled somewhere afar

The old man depends on the city’s life bizarre

And as years passes by and he lies on his death bed

The little lost penguin who now found a home

lays with him, dead on his lap.
